News Please note that our Syndicates and Racing Club are now available for membership - please go to the Syndicates page for more details.... 22nd Oct 08 Yesterday was spent at Exeter where Neil had three runners. Imoncloudnine ran the Amateur riders race. This was his debut on a racecourse and he behaved impeccably. He ran a nice race ridden by Danny Cook eventually finishing in 11th place. This will set him in good stead for his future races.
Neil also had 2 runners in the second race at Exeter - Alfatrix and River Conquest. Alfatrix was mounted in the paddock by Liam Heard and then the excitement of the occasion overtook him and he reared up and unceremoniously dumped poor Liam on the tarmac! No harm done however and Alfatrix was remounted. Unfortunately he fell at the 4th hurdle. This was also Alfatrix's debut and there will be lots more chances for this beautiful horse. River Conquest pulled up.
Today at Southwell saw Faraday's debut over fences. He ran a very creditable race finishing 6th out of 16. This was a very promising run. 16th Oct 08 We arrived at Cheltenham and the sun was still shining (which is more than be said on Winsley's last outing to Fontwell, when she was pulled out of the race due to too much rain making the ground go soft!) Winsley Hill was in the Jewson Novices' Handicap Hurdle Final (Class 2) which had 20 declarations and looked to be a very competitive race. Speaking to Helen Cross who owns Winsley Hill before the race, she said that if Winsley finished in the first half of the field she would be happy. Winsley Hill in the Pre-Parade Ring:
Winsley Hill and Connections in the Parade Ring:
Winsley Hill is well known for really trying her heart out in her races and today was no exception. She jumped off in amongst the first five horses and that was where she stayed throughout the race, eventually finishing fourth, having jumped well throughout the race. This was an excellent result in what was a true run race at a fair gallop. Here are some photos of Winsley Hill and some very happy connections in the winner's enclosure at Cheltenham!
This is what the RP thought... Courtesy of RP The consistent Winsley Hill was 3lb higher and ran the race of her
life. She has developed into a very likeable mare and, despite going up again
for this, can be found another winning turn. 9th Oct 08 Neil had 4 runners at Wincanton today - Sir Bumble ran brilliantly to come 2nd at 80/1 - what a result!! - I was not able to go today :( but here is the RP analysis of what happened! The blue bits are the RP's words not mine....if anyone took any photos of Neil's runners today or has any extra comments to make - please can you email them to me - kaystone@btinternet.com Clovis finished 9th in what was a reasonably "hot" juvenile hurdle - Clovis Sir Bumble finished 2nd - he ran an absolute cracker!! Liam gave him a fantastic ride! Well done to all connections especially Mike Burbidge. Neil also had another runner in this race - Fairlight Shadow who finished 10th. Sir Bumble had failed to complete on his last four
starts (spread over two seasons), so this represented a big improvement in form
on his seasonal debut for a new trainer. He is on a handy official mark if he
can match this front-running effort next time. Fairlight Shadow I´m A Legend finished 4th - after Sir Bumble's excellent run - Legend was backed into 9/4 favourite! mid-division, headway after 3 out, soon ridden to chase leaders, stayed on from last Here is a photo of I'm A Legend sent in by Dennis Caves, who with his wife Denise are part of Wincanton Race Club who own I’m A Legend. Dennis tells me that they had a fantastic time at Wincanton. The photo is actually of I'm A Legend taken when he won at Taunton back in Feb 2008.
Photograph by Mark Johnston of Wellington, Somt. 4th Oct 08 Liz, Helen, Steph, Kay and Maidey travelled to Fontwell with great anticipation of Winsley Hill having a great chance in the 5.10pm at Fontwell. The journey went well, M & S sandwiches enjoyed by all (especially Maidey!), but as we neared Fontwell the storm clouds gathered...Winsley Hill travelled really well and we all duly arrived at Fontwell....
Liz and Steph went off to prepare Winsley Hill for the race, Maidey guarded the lorry, and Helen and Kay went off to the O & T conservatory...but it was now raining.... L By the time the third race on the card had finished, Neil had arrived and decided that the ground was now too soft to run Winsley Hill. It was raining really hard by now and the rain was there to stay... L L L L So an hour after arriving at Fontwell, we loaded up Winsley Hill and all went home...there will be another day! OVERTIME!!! LIZ DRIVING US HOME...
1st Oct 08 The beautiful Clovis ran at Salisbury today and a great day was had by all! Mr and Mrs Bridger were there with their friends Mr and Mrs Joule. Clovis finished 9th in the 1m 6f. I always think this distance is wonderful at Salisbury as the start is right outside the O & T bar. There are no starting stalls, just a tape as at a NH race. The photos below are courtesy of Michael Joule.
