What do we have to do to get a winner?? After having Rhinestone Ruby touched off on the nod a couple of weeks ago, last night at Bath, beautiful Clovis was beaten a short head in a photo finish on the 1m2f handicap. Dane O'Neill was on board and gave him a cracking ride but was just beaten on the line. Clovis was last to leave the stalls and stayed in that position until the final two furlongs when he decided to join in the fun and put in his now normal finishing burst of speed to get his head in front but unfortunately he was just beaten on the line. David Bridger, who owns Clovis, was there to cheer him on. The RP said: Clovis, with cheekpieces replacing blinkers, arrived with what looked like a winning run, only to be denied on the line. Not the most straightforward of rides, he can be very hard work and is far from reliable, but he is on the right sort of mark if he can reproduce this effort.

Neil also sent 2 runners to Worcester for the afternoon's jumps meeting. I'm A Legend ran in the 2m7f chase. He ran well for most of the way but was hampered at the 8th by a faller and didn't quite get home. The RP said: Bathwick Breeze fell when in front with a circuit to run, hampering both I´m A Legend, who did not run badly in the circumstances, and Letham Island.

Sula's Legend ran in the 2m4f handicap hurdle but didn't seem to go too well on the fast going and was eased down by jockey Robert Thornton and also probably with hindsight prefers a fence.

Winsley Hill (Larkinglass Princess as Neil calls her) travelled to Stratford to take her chance against Hills of Aran, rated approximately 35lbs higher than her, in the 2m7f Novices Chase. Apart from a hairy moment over the water jump on the first circuit, she ran an absolute blinder to finish second to Hills Of Aran. This beautiful mare is so game. She loves her work and always put in 100% effort for her loyal Owner Mrs Helen Cross. Winsley Hill is a very consistent mare and normally manages to earn her keep. Liam turned Winsley Hill out immaculately and led her up for Helen. The RP said: Winsley Hill jumped comfortably until she began to feel the strain of trying to keep up with the winner, and her jumping got lower as she tired. She ran as well as could be expected against a superior rival.

Yesterday Neil sent Rhinestone Ruby to Uttoxeter and I'm A Legend and Peacefull Waters to Fontwell. Both were evening meetings.

The first horse to race was I'm A Legend - he was in the 2m2f Beginners Chase at Fontwell. He finished 3rd which was a much better result than last time at Stratford. Ridden as usual by Choc Thornton, I'm A Legend was ridden from the front. The Owners, Wincanton Race Club, were very pleased with the result. The RP said: I´m A Legend seemed to enjoy the switch to more prominent tactics. Though he faded badly from the second-last, it was an improved effort following two lamentable performances and he could be on the way back.

Next up was Rhinestone Ruby in the 2m4f Handicap Hurdle at Uttoxeter. She was ridden for the first time by Richard Johnson who gave her a cracking ride to finish 2nd by a nose. We all thought she had passed the post first but the photo showed that Pheonix De Mottes had put his head down at just the right moment. We really thought she had won but she is safe and sound and will probably run again on 7th July back at Uttoxeter for a Mares only hurdle race which she surely will run well in again. There are some shares available in Rhinestone Ruby - please see the "Horses For Sale" page for more details. The RP said: Rhinestone Ruby, carrying top weight, has now finished second four times and does nothing wrong. She was just nabbed on the line after leading for perhaps a stride or two. A fine big mare, her future surely lies over fences and she will surely win.

Next up was Peacefull Waters recently purchased by Mrs Sarah Clifford. This horse was recently fancied to run well and Choc was booked to ride. The horse ran in the 2m2f handicap hurdle and after making a mistake at the 6th hurdle weakened rapidly and was soon pulled up. Peacefull Waters finished lame and will be x-rayed today.

Yesterday Play A Cord travelled to Fontwell to run in the Novices Handicap Hurdle. She ran really well but stopped very suddenly and was pulled up. Johnny Farrelly reported that she was travelling so well at one stage that he thought he would have finished in the top five. So Neil had Play A Cord scoped and she scoped dirty so she will have a little break now with some antibiotics. She will soon be ok again. Play A Cord was supported by her Club Owners Shelia and John Baigent and Gavin Cook. Play A Cord was the pick of the paddock today having been immaculately turned out by Liam Adams.

Today we should have been travelling to Wetherby with Winsley Hill and Clovis but due to the malfunction of the Wetherby watering system the meeting was abandoned. We were really disappointed as both horses would have had good chances in their respective races.
